On February 2nd, 2024, the community lost Bruce Leon Josephs. Bruce passed in Naples, FL surrounded by his family and friends. His passing concluded a 6 year battle with cancer, having beaten it once during that time. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Melinda Kay Josephs, his three children: Brian (sp. Kristen), Matthew (sp. Jacqueline) and Jennifer (fiance Thomas Wraith), and four grandchildren: Brady (5), Rosemary (3), Annie (11 mo) and John (3 mo). He was an exceptional man, living his values by putting his family and friends first. He was deeply committed to those important to him, traveling all over the country to visit his children, grandchildren, siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. When he wasn’t traveling, he welcomed all into his home for holidays, birthdays and any other reason to get together and share a laugh. A testament to his kindness, humor, and character, he kept many lifelong friends, be it from York High School, University of Illinois, Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity or work at United Airlines. Now his spirit joins his parents, Mitchel and Sylvia, and brothers, Mitch and Greg. His memory lives on in our hearts and the many stories we will share for years to come. Visitation Friday, February 9, 2024, 1:00 p.m. until time of funeral service 5:00 p.m. at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 South York Road, (½ mile North of Saint Charles Road), Elmhurst. Interment Private. I had the pleasure of working with Bruce at United Airlines headquarters for many years. Unfortunately we overlapped in dealing with certain major health issues. It was therefore with great empathy as well as with great respect that I admired how he faced medical challenges, yet he still worked hard with us in the office. Condolences to the family from me and from my wife Gail.

Bruce was the first friend of Joe’s that I met in Peoria in 1982
And then I met Mindy! And the rest is history. Our friendship over the past 42 years has been a true blessing

I met BJ in college after he pledged Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity, and we have been “Brothers” ever since. BJ has always been a great friend to me, as he is to everyone who ever got to know him well. He was a great husband to Mindy, and an outstanding father to his kids. All who knew Bruce loved and respected him, and he will be missed by all. The only peace we have is that BJ’s pain is now gone, and he is in a better place where we will all join him again! Hawk

Had the distinct pleasure of meeting Bruce at Phi Taus in college. Bruce was funny, outgoing, hard working, served house as Steward and President and opened the house kitchen often during times of crisis. Bruce commanded much respect in the house and am blessed to have known him. Condolences to Mindy and family. One heck of a man and brother. He will be missed by many but never forgotten.
