Shirley H. DiPompeo, nee Kempski, age 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by family; a resident of Franciscan Court Supportive Living for the past two years, she will be greatly missed. Shirley was the beloved wife of the late Edmund for 45 years; loving mother of Lois (Donald) Hince, Richard (Marie) DiPompeo and the late David DiPompeo; proud grandmother of Laura (Joseph) Scola, Darren (Allison) Hince, Justin DiPompeo, and Christine DiPompeo; dear great-grandmother of Olivia and Evette Scola, and Landon and Reagan Hince; and fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. She was the cherished daughter of the late William and the late Clara Kempski, and sister of the late Lorraine Elwart, the late Elaine Klodzinski and the late Roland Kempski. Shirley led a full life and spent many years as a data processing coordinator for the paint buying offices at Sears in Chicago. She moved with the company from its west side offices on Homan Avenue to the Sears Tower in 1973. When not working, she loved to sew for herself and family members, and provided many little girls beautiful wardrobes for their dolls throughout the years. Friends and family will also remember the energy she put into dinners and parties for them, cooking flavorful main dishes, baking delicious desserts and creating out-of-this-world gelatin molds. After retirement she was very active in the St. William’s Catholic Church senior citizens group in Chicago. She planned numerous bus trips for members to places all over the Midwest during her years with the group. Shirley and her husband also enjoyed traveling to nearby Italian fests every summer to hear their favorite singing artists. I’ll always remember my godmother. All the doll dresses she made for my Tony doll. She made the greatest broken glass jello mold. When I was very young she took me to the Chicago Theater on Saturday mornings for a child’s play. But most of all she was always my Auntie Shirley.
Your niece, Ar
Heather
Shirley was my supervisor at Sears in the Tower. She was so good to all of us and very maternal. She loved her family so much. Her gelatin molds were a legend especially the Harvey Wallbanger. A lovely kind and generous woman. So proud of her children.
