George Herman Koop

George Herman Koop, 90, of Elmhurst, Illinois, passed away peacefully in his home of 63 years on the morning of August 13, 2025, with family at his bedside.

George was born in Chicago to Herman and Vera and attended Lane Tech High School before joining the U.S. Navy, serving on active duty and in the reserves for a total of 8 years as a member of the “Seabees,” the United States Naval Construction Battalion. He married the love of his life, Carol (Bay), in September 1960 who preceded him in death in 2018. George was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 134 for 70 years and famously declared that he loved every day on the job. Above all, he was the consummate family man who exemplified steadfast dedication to being a loving and supportive husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his sister Jeanette; three children Ken (Lynn), John, and Cathy (Don); grandchildren Sean (Natalie), Alex (Dave), Christian, and Matthew; and six great grandchildren Aedan, Liam, Madison, Lily, Noah, and Mackenzie.

Visitation Saturday, August 23, 2025, 9:00 a.m.until time of funeral service 11:00 a.m. at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 South York Road, (½ mile North of Saint Charles Road), Elmhurst.
