Mary Catherine Hughes

Mary Catherine Hughes (née Nicholas), 79, of Naperville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family. Known for her generosity, quick smile, and deep compassion, Mary brought laughter and light wherever she went. Her sense of humor was matched only by her generous heart. A woman of strong faith and quiet strength, Mary dedicated herself to others through volunteer work with PADS, Meals on Wheels, Eucharistic Adoration, and Religious Education. She always saw the best in everyone and encouraged others to do the same. She was the beloved mother of Eileen (Dean) Rattin, Catherine (Joseph) Trompeter, Heather (Erik Hoevenaars) Hughes, Patrick (Kelley) Hughes, and Colleen (the late Michael) Dawdy; proud grandmother of Gavin, Patrick III, Brendan, Aidan, Maeve, Kevin, Annie, Mickey, Jack, Rian, and Sean. She was a dear sister to Thomas (Belinda) Nicholas and joins her late brothers, William Nicholas and John (Mona) Nicholas, and her parents, William and Helen Nicholas, in eternal rest. Mary was also a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for her laughter, her love of animals, her appreciation for the beauty of nature, her unwavering faith, and the deep joy she took in her family.
