Our entire community of LHS Wildcats are absolutely grieving the loss of our good friend and colleague. Scott was a True Wildcat–he was kind, friendly, dedicated, and always focused on helping our students and staff. Scott was an outstanding counselor and he was always willing to work athletic competitions to watch our students compete & to help our Athletic Department create high-quality events for our community. Skylar & Sydney–your Dad was so proud of you. For every conversation I had with your Dad about issues at work, we had twice as many about the two of you. All of us will miss Scott and the joy, spirit, and excellence he brought to LHS.

I have worked closely with Scott for the passed 17 years at LHS. Scott was an excellent counselor, a supportive colleague and just an amazing good person. He had a big heart and he worked hard for his students. He knew when to advocate with vigor, how to support those experiencing challenges and how to have hard conversations with a healthy dose of Chicago blue collar compassion. Whether you were a student or a colleague you knew Scott could be counted on to see the big picture, to be fair, to be just and to find the best possible outcome. This is a devastating loss. Mr. Bogumil was an amazing guidance counselor to me and many others. When I first came to LHS my sophomore year, he really made me feel at home and helped me fit in not only academically but socially as well. When it came to my struggles with mental health and schoolwork, he would always help me and my family come up with the best possible plan for my success. I owe a lot of my school success to him with his awesome guidance and advice. He was always so helpful and so kind with every single encounter I had with him. As amazing as his basketball mind was, nothing can compare to who he was as a person and the examples he set about how to be the best counselor for his students. On Friday afternoon as he often did Scott stopped to talk to me briefly on his way out of the Studio Theater at Libertyville High School. Most of the time we would end up talking about his passion, basketball or sports in general sometimes just about life. The conversations usually lasted two minutes but in actuality, it was closer to fifteen minutes because we both had a lot to talk about. I will miss those talks now. He raised his hand high and waived goodbye for the last time as he hustled out the door. I offer my condolences to his family and friends in their time of grieving. God Bless.

What an honor it’s been to read all of these kind words written about Uncle Scott! He truly was a good man.. kind, welcoming, funny. I never heard anyone say a bad word about him and vise versa. I always appreciated his guidance and direction when I had questions about my path and academic future.

The memory that’s bringing some levity this morning, is the first time I saw him coach. Prior to this event, I had never seen my Uncle so much as raise his voice, but that day I saw him sweating, yelling and squatting while pulling his hair on the sidelines of this basketball game. I remember sitting in the stands with my mouth agape. He was so animated. The passion he had for the game was palpable. But just like that, after the game ended, he went back to his same ole soft-spoken character. BLEW MY MIND and makes me chuckle to this day!! Rest easy, Uncle Scott. May you have peace knowing that your girls have endless support and here’s hoping that there’s access to Basketball in Heaven.

My heart is with my Auntie Stacey and my sweet baby cousins today. Take care of one another and be patient with yourselves during this time. I love you guys xo

Usually, we started by talking about a student, but we inevitably switched to the Cubs and our families. Scott loved his family and was great to talk to. I had the privilege to work with Scott for two years as one of my fellow Counselor colleagues. I am deeply saddened by his passing. He always had a smile and was an exceptional Counselor. I learned so much from him. I was trully fortunate to have worked with him. We are praying for the whole family during this sad time.

I work at LHS and was touched by Scott’s kind and friendly nature. I appreciated his friendly hello when I would pass him in the hall. My deepest condolences for your loss. I pray that God will bring you comfort and support you during this very difficult time.

Our sincere condolences to the Bogumil family during this difficult time. We’ve worked with Scott here at LHS for many years and have become to know him as always pleasant and a nice person to be around. He will be sadly missed by many here throughout our District.
