Roberta M. “Bobbie” Sobieraj, nee Markle, age 84, of Elmhurst, formerly of Taylor, MI; beloved wife of Jerome; loving mother of James (Jacquelyn), Jerome MD (Janet MD), Jeffrey (Carmen), Jane (Gene) Evans and the late infant John; proud grandmother of Julia, Olivia, Stephanie and Jocelyn Sobieraj, Tania (Greg) Schram, Jeffrey and Alexandra Sobieraj and Katherine, Sheila and Molly Evans; cherished great-grandmother of Hayden and Tristan Schram; dear sister of Kay (Patrick) Connelly; fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. Bobbie was raised in Melvindale, Michigan, and educated at Catholic schools which provided the foundation for her profound faith. Shortly after her high school graduation, she began work at the General Motors Fleetwood plant and met the love of her life, Jerry. They were married for nearly 65 years. They settled in Taylor, Michigan, where they raised their children and were active members of St. Alfred parish. When her children were older, she became a school secretary for the Taylor Public Schools, working in elementary schools over 20 years. Their home on Myler Street became a place where everyone stopped by for Bobbie’s generous hospitality. Many of her children’s friends referred to her as “Aunt Bobbie” because she provided such a loving, welcome environment for everyone. She and Jerry traveled extensively, visiting over 75 countries and all 50 states, and were quite the dancing duo at weddings and parties. Bobbie was a friend to everyone she met, and will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 28, 2020, 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 South York Road, (½ mile North of Saint Charles Road), Elmhurst. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment Private. The funeral Mass can be viewed remotely through a live stream provided on the Gibbons Funeral Home web site. For further information please call 630-832-0018 or www.gibbonsfuneralhome.com

Mrs. Sobieraj had a spirit that will surely be missed. Her legacy is the family she and Mr. Sobieraj raised. May that legacy of success, kindness, and family values continue for generations to come.

Bobbie you will be missed so much. Many fine memories of our childhood and all the trips we took together. I cried on your wedding day and thought I loss a sister. I was wrong. I gain a brother-in-law and you both brought 4 lovely children into this world that I have good memories with your family. You always included me in your fun things you did in the neighborhood. I am very thankful for all the things you did for me. You will always be in my thoughts and prayers. Love, your sister Kay

Harry, my heartfelt condolences to you and your family. I am sorry for your loss. I have many fond memories of you and Bobbie. You were good to me.

I remember you and your sisters rolling up the carpet in the dining room and dancing to polkas. I remember the craps games after noon mass at St. Hedwig. The Lockwood house is still standing! I’m still living in it! The bike you gave me was my first and had the best seat! I transferred it to other bikes. So many good memories. Take care, Harry!
