Kevin Carr D’Agostino

Kevin Carr D’Agostino, 33, of Elmhurst, passed away on Monday morning, with his family by his side. Beloved son of Mario and Mary Carr D’Agostino; loving brother and best friend of Michael, twin brother of Elizabeth (Ryan Hogan), adoring brother of Carly (Ryan Letzeiser), Natalie and his dear late sister Julie.

Like Michael Jordan, Kevin was a guy that “never lost a game…just ran out of time”. As a family, we are saddened that the buzzer went off way too soon. Kevin was born with Cystic Fibrosis, but didn’t live with Cystic Fibrosis. He lived with boundless amounts of strength, optimism, courage, energy, love, loyalty and determination. While others could say he was dealt a “bad hand”, Kevin was in it to win it. A “bad hand” was merely another challenge to him! If you met him, you never forgot him. He left you feeling better about yourself, you were inevitably “The Best”!

As a pediatric ICU nurse in Chicago or a traveling nurse in Austin, Texas or as a volunteer nurse on a medical mission trip to Iraq, Macedonia and Croatia, Kevin packed so much into his life. These opportunities and adventures were all made possible by his determination and dedication to physical exercise; it was what he lived by to keep himself healthy. While honored to care for and help patients at the bedside, Kevin wanted to do more in the medical field and in 2015 was proud to be accepted into Rush University esteemed CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) program, but that dream was cut short by a life altering brain injury in 2016.

Despite the overwhelming obstacles that Kevin came to know, including a double lung transplant, he kept himself busy, surrounded by family and friends, with lunches and dinners at his favorite restaurant Benihana’s and other eateries in Chicago and the suburbs. Thank you to all those who helped him stay occupied and engaged with their endless visits, love, encouragement, Backgammon, card games and stories that always ended with Kevin’s favorite exclamation of “NO WAY”!

Kevin fought the good fight, and now we all know he is in heaven catching up with his dear sister Julie.

Funeral arrangements are private and a celebration of life will be planned for a future time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Julie D. Foundation ( Arrangements handed by Gibbons Funeral Home, Elmhurst. 630-832-0018 or

    Dear D’Agostino family,
I wish I had something profound to say to help you through these trying times, but any attempt I could make would only come up short. Your beautiful son lead a most inspiring life to everyone whose life intersected with his. I don’t profess to know him as well as most of the people who will be paying their respects, but I knew him well enough to know that if everyone attacked life and the roadblocks placed in their way with the determination that he did, the world would be a much happier and better place. Kevin achieved more in his time here than most people achieve in multiple lifetimes, never complaining about the cards he was dealt, but always looking for the next adventure. You guys gave him the room and encouragement to do things he wanted and needed to do while he was here and by God, didn’t he go out and do them all. Now as he goes to join his little sister, we know that he has left behind a wealth of memories that will sustain and inspire people for years to come. I am sorry circumstances do not allow for us to try to lend support with our physical presence, but rest assured we will be watching tomorrow to honor his memory and pay respects to a family that has produced the most wonderful children possible.
    Lots of love, Bill Fahey

The video is a beautiful tribute to a life well lived with loving family and friends. While far too short, clearly Kevin made the most of it. He will be missed and may God’s peace shine on Kevin and the D’Agostino family.

Mario, Mary, Mike, Liz, Carly, & Natalie,
I’m so sorry for your loss. My heart can’t express the words to capture my sorrow, or condolences, let alone my own emotions. Had it not been for these times we’re in now, I’d have been on a plane, grieving alongside you. I know in my heart that Kevin is far better off now than he ever was here on Earth. May the Lord rest his spirit, and knowing that, may you take comfort in that as well. He and Julie, will be forever in our hearts, our minds, and our memories. Their suffering is gone,, and I hope you take consolation in that. God knows I do. May they rest in peace, until we see them again.

    Love Always,

Dearest Ds, Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing Kevin’s funeral, and most importantly the tribute by both of Kevin’s uncles & cousin. All absolutely knocked it out of the park, and I’m certain Kevin is most pleased. May the ones they spoke of, along with your many, many fond memories, carry you through this difficult time. Your cross has been heavy – watching your willingness and grace carrying it has been an inspiration to all. Rest in peace, Kevin. You will be missed by many. Love, Kathy Wojcicki

  17. Collin J McKenna says:

    D’Agostino Family,

I am so terribly sorry for your loss. It’s a beautiful tribute. Sounds like Kevin knew you missed every shot you didn’t take so he took em all. Sadly, I didn’t get the chance to meet him. However, I feel like I almost did given how reverently Michael always talked about him. “A legend!” “The best!” It’s always how he’s described him. The very first time he told me about Kevin was when Michael had just gotten back from Poland to learn how to climb freezing mountains without any cold gear (or any gear at all) and jump in icy lakes. He wanted to learn these things because he thought if he could get Kevin to do it, it might help his CF. It really drove home how much Michael loved him and more importantly what Kevin inspired in others. His loss will be felt by so many.

    Deepest sympathy,

  21. CeeCee Hudson says:

My heart sunk when I read the notice for Kevin. My daughter, Carol Hudson, and Kevin were patients at the same time at LGH. They were the same age. I remember when the Nat’l Honor students from Notre Dame HS came and helped both of them with their studies. Carol passed 6 years ago. Please God bless Kevin’s family and help researchers find a cure for this dreadful disease.

  22. Dave, Gina, and Tom Fishman says:

Our Dearest Mary, Mario, Michael, Elizabeth, Carly, and Natalie: Thank you so much for sharing with us Kevin’s Celebration of Life/Mass with us. I felt like we were there with you giving our love and support. It was such a perfect service for Kevin with the memories shared about such an amazing man. Kevin always met us with his contagious smile and kind heart. He was just the best to Tom, always including him in everything when Tom was at your home which was oh soooo often. Kevin’s love of life, just like Julie’s, will be forever missed but the love he radiated touched, helped, and inspired soooo many. Our prayers for peace and comfort are with you all and thoughts of Kevin, with Julie, will always be in our hearts and minds. We are so grateful you are family. Love, Your Cousins, Dave, Gina, and Tom
