Jeanne Rita Kevil, nee Hopkinson, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the wee hours of August 5th. Born in Chicago, grew up in Oak Park, was educated at Ascension Parish Grade School, Trinity High School and Rosary College; raised her family in and longtime resident of Elmhurst; beloved wife of the late John “Jack” Joseph Kevil, Sr.; beloved mother of John Jr. (Donna), James (Victoria) and Stephen (Pat) Kevil, Therese (Tim) Koch, Patricia (Tom) Sundahl, Michael, and Martin (Karen) Kevil; proud Nana of 19 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, including the late Joseph Gabriele Kevil; cherished daughter of the late Bernice and the late John Hopkinson. After Jack’s passing, Jeanne learned to drive again and became fiercely independent. For 33 years she worked at Tom Collins and Assoc. as his secretary and office manager. The work suited her servant heart. Jeanne, a history buff and avid reader, enjoyed innumerable visits with her Oak Park and Visitation Church friends playing bridge, enjoyed her weekly trip to the hair salon, always has beautifully painted nails, and loved her countless visitors to her birdbath on the deck outside her kitchen window. Jeanne’s 82nd year was a millstone – it meant she outlived all her relatives on the Hopkinson side; and now just shy of 90, she was the last of the world’s greatest generation among all of the related families. She will be missed by her potluck club, still active after 72 years! Visitation Wednesday, 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, 9:15 until time of funeral 10:15 a.m at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 South York Road, (½ mile North of Saint Charles Road), Elmhurst. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m. at Visitation Catholic Church. Interment Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, Hillside. She was a wonderful lady. My mom had a lot of nice things to say about her and, I’m sure, sat across the bridge table from her a time or two! I also remember her patience when the Vis Kids from the East would congregate in front of her house on school days.
May God Bless her and keep her

Hi to all you Kevil’s. I am so sorry I am unable to come to the wake and funeral. I’m on my way to Galway for Patrick’s wedding. But just wanted to let you know I am there with you in spirit and sending you love and my sincerest sympathy. I’m sure you have been hearing lots of great stories about your mom today. Quite a life our parents had! And they gave us so many happy memories. There is nothing like family and sharing experiences with friends, your best friends! And now we carry on the legacy through our families. Jeanne will be sorely missed by you and so many others. But take comfort that she is in a better place and she’s back with Jack!
Love and prayers,
Susie

We attended the most lovely funeral Mass Thursday at Visitation – for the most lovely Jeanne Kevil. We are so glad we were able to say goodbye to Jeanne at such a splendid service! Our thanks for Father Kearney and to Marty and to the many Kevils who participated in the liturgy. Our family is from Elmhurst, and the kids attended Visitation School too — and so of course we know and have appreciated the Kevil Clan for many decades. They were and are a fabulous family, well-known and well-loved. We are all blessed to have enjoyed Jeanne in this life, and we’re certain she’s delighting God and his angels in her next life as we write! We send our love and our prayers to you all — The family of Jewell Rita Mueller and the late Danny Mueller, and their kids (and their families) Melissa, Mary Beth, Megan, Danny & Maura.
